Ireland’s top analytics and AI teams and projects celebrated at industry awards

Microsoft and Pfizer among winners at the Analytics Institute Fellowship and Industry Awards as ‘Women in Data Science’ project wins special award. The awards recognise the growing influence and significance of the data analytics sector which represents €38bn of exports

A company that recruits and supports talented people on the Autistic Spectrum has won the Best Diversity in Analytics award at this year’s National Fellowship and Industry Awards, hosted by the Analytics Institute.
Specialisterne was one of 11 award winners at the inaugural Analytics Institute Fellowship and Industry Awards, which took place at the Westin Hotel in Dublin today. The Fellowship and Industry awards aim to recognise outstanding talent in the data science, artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics sectors in Ireland.
Data analytics is considered one of the fastest-growing sectors in the Irish economy, generating over €38 billion in total exports alone in 2018. According to a report conducted by PwC in conjunction with the Analytics Institute published this week, 16 per cent of executives in Ireland’s top firms say AI will create more jobs in their organisations this year.
Incredible momentum in the Irish analytics industry
Lorcan Malone, chief executive of the Analytics Institute, said: “We have received over 1,300 votes for the finalists. Entries came from all across the country and from a wide range of organisations, big and small. This is a reflection of the incredible momentum the Irish analytics industry has experienced over the last number of years.
“It is an exciting and fast moving sector. Ireland is well positioned to take advantage of this growth. We have great talent and brilliant companies here. But we have to move fast to bring new products and services to global markets. We cannot afford to be left behind.”
Fergal Collins, chief executive of the Aon Centre for Innovation and Analytics, the main sponsor, said: “We are living in an increasingly complex and volatile world, where the need for analytics professionals to use data wisely to guide the decision makers of global and domestic enterprises and governments, has never been greater.

Jo O’Donovan, head of analytics for Eir won the Analytics Leader of the Year Award, which was hotly contested with other finalists in this category also coming from Groupon and First Data, said: “I am delighted to be a winner of this prestigious award.
“It is a fantastic achievement which reflects on the dedication and commitment of all the analytics team members Eir. This accolade is very important to all of us.”
