PFH supported DPS’s business agility and growth in European, US, Middle East and Asian operations with a variety of key projects, including: design and implementation of new ICT infrastructure, virtualisation of existing systems providing application delivery to DPS users on any device and disaster recovery (DR) of business critical systems.

DPS Engineering is a leading project management and engineering company serving industry around the world and is celebrating 40 years in business. It offers innovative designs and cost-effective solutions to clients in the pharmaceutical, microelectronics and other process industry sectors. DPS employs more than 800 people worldwide.

Challenge

The biggest challenge for DPS was it was expanding rapidly during project implementation.

“The main value-add we were looking for was to find a best-in-class yet fit-for-purpose solution to support our global expansion,” says Pat McIntyre, technical director at DPS.

“While we will consider working with leading edge technology – we prefer to allow technology prove itself before we embrace new solutions.” It was in meeting this objective that DPS sought an ICT specialist partner to bring a competitive perspective to addressing them.

Solution ICT

“PFH worked with us on infrastructure projects for many years and we’ve always had a very good working relationship – very trusting,” says McIntyre. “The right infrastructure is critical for us and it’s important that we have someone who can give us a clear view of the bigger picture.”

While the ICT infrastructure solution was a big step for DPS it was a physically simple one and a stepping-stone to facilitating a move to the cloud.

Virtualisation

PFH delivered a secure and protected system that was sustainable and kept pace with technological development in the industry. The solution gave DPS rapid set-up of remote sites and offices while providing all the necessary control disciplines for the home office.

In a rapid expansion phase, DPS was growing as the project was being delivered by PFH. The company was able to work with less physical servers, upgrading to the newest ones available.

Disaster recovery (DR)

A big step for DPS was getting the DR right and getting the organisation set up for more cloud and web-based activity. The disaster recovery solution for DPS meant the delivery of a replica of the systems in both Dublin and Cork. In the event of any difficulty the systems ‘fail over’ to each other so that operations can continue and run effortlessly from either location with no disruption to the organisation and no down time, which was a key benefit and a key requirement for DPS.

Benefits

“PFH get things done. They brought us to the right place by being responsive and proactive. They delivered the expertise we needed,” said McIntyre, “and they ensured the projects were soundly planned, with our team working well with the PFH team.”

We currently employ more than 200 technical and core staff in our offices in Dublin, Cork and Galway to enable us deliver our services and products to all four corners of the island. PFH holds strategic partnerships at the highest level with key global technology leaders including HP, Microsoft, Unify, Citrix, VMware, Enterasys, Dell and Lenovo.
