Medical device firm Zimmer is to create 250 new jobs at its facility at Oranmore, Co Galway over the next five years.

Zimmer, an Engineers Ireland CPD accredited employer, is expanding its operations in Ireland and will invest €51 million in a building in Oranmore to manufacture orthopaedic implants. The company established a manufacturing facility in Shannon in 2007 and currently employs 330 people in Ireland.

Adrian Furey, general manager for Zimmer Ireland, said that the project was a direct result of Zimmer “constantly assessing its worldwide operations and logistics network”.

“Zimmer has had a very positive experience of doing business in Ireland,” he continued. “We’re looking forward to building on the success of our Shannon operation by expanding in Galway. Our Shannon facility will continue to be our flagship for Ireland and we’ll continue to invest in our operations there.”

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton added that manufacturing is an area that the Government has specifically targeted as part of its jobs plan. He said that manufacturing companies “offer great potential in particular to deliver job-creation to regional locations”.

The recruitment for all positions will begin in the coming months. A link to the available positions can be found here.
