Final text of Building Control Regulations 2014 now available
22 January 2014
The final text of the Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2014 has been approved by Phil Hogan, Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government.
At the Engineers Ireland CPD seminar on the revised Regulations on 17 January, the Department of the Environment’s Martin Vaughan advised the 210 delegates that the publication of the revised Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2014 was imminent.
Earlier this week, the new Statutory Instrument (SI) No 9 of 2014 was circulated to members of the Consultation Working Group, which represented the principal stakeholders in the construction industry – namely, the Association of Consulting Engineers Ireland, the Construction Industry Federation, Engineers Ireland, the Royal Institute of Architects Ireland and the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland. In his communiqué, Vaughan advised that the instrument was to be publicly notified in the 21 January edition of the Iris Oifiguil.
SI 80 of 2013 has been revoked and replaced by these new regulations. The new SI was necessary due to an error in the text of the original SI (80 of 2013) and the need to address text changes made by the Department after the conclusion of the consultation process.
As confirmed at the CPD seminar, the implementation date for these revised Regulations remains as 1 March 2014.
Engineers Ireland, together with the other stakeholders, will now continue with the drafting and finalisation of the Ancillary Certificates that the new system of Building Control Regulation now require to be in place.
