Deloitte director joins CPD awards panel

A director from Deloitte Ireland has joined the judging panel for the 2010 Engineers Ireland CPD Company of the Year awards to assist in assessing which organisation uses CPD to best strategic effect. Mark O’Donnell, Director of Human Capital Consulting, Deloitte Ireland, joins the panel of experts from engineering and human resources management backgrounds who have the unenviable task of deciding which firm will take home the 5,000-year-old bog oak trophy, the Salmon of Knowledge.

This year, the overall winner and the category winners will also be profiled in The Engineers Journal as well as in a special feature in The Sunday Business Post, guaranteeing widespread profiling and publicity for the entries which come out on top.

The chair of the 2010 CPD Company of the Year awards judging panel once again this year is Michael Hayden Chartered Engineer, FIEI who has been special CPD advisor to Engineering Ireland since the inception of the CPD scheme. Michael is also a Past President of the Irish Academy of Engineering and former managing director of ESB International. Joining Michael on the judging panel for the 2010 awards are stalwart judges Michael McDonnell, director, CIPD Ireland; Barry Kenny, Chartered Engineer FIEI, managing director of FDK Consulting; and Mark O’Donnell, Director of Human Capital Consulting, Deloitte Ireland.

The judges are faced with some difficult decisions this year. More and more, organisations across all sections of engineering are excelling in their use of CPD to allow them to break into new markets, develop new products and innovate with cutting-edge technologies. Category prizes will be awarded according to the size of the organisations in terms of number of employees. A special annual award is also made to the not-for-profit or public sector body which best displays effective and efficient use of CPD in realising a meaningful project or initiative.

The closing date for entry into the 2010 CPD Company of the Year awards is September 8, 2010 at 12 noon. The entries will be presented to the judging panel, who will then announce the winners at the special breakfast ceremony, Wednesday, October 6, 2010. The annual CPD Symposium, a major best-practice sharing and networking event, will follow the awards.
