HSA achieves CPD Accreditation
The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has become the latest public sector organisation to be awarded the prestigious CPD (Continuing Professional Development) Accredited Employer standard from Engineers Ireland.
The award follows an audit of the HSA's lifelong learning and development practises for their engineering professionals.
The HSA is the national statutory body with responsibility for enforcing occupational safety and health law, promoting and encouraging accident prevention, and providing information and advice to all companies, organisations and individuals.
The Authority is also the national Competent Authority for REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) and other chemicals legislation.
The Authority deals with every size of workplace in every economic sector. It is a corporate priority of the HSA to develop all employees in order to maximise individual and team contributions to achieve business goals. The organisation has used the CPD Accredited Employer Standard as a template to develop a clear CPD Strategy and support systems, incorporating existing processes and relevant additions to meet the standard.

Apply for graduate scholarship now! 75% grant for best applicant
Engineers Ireland’s unique Future Professionals Programme began in September last with a full class on the Professional Progression strand, aimed at experienced engineers with strong leadership potential.
In February 2012, the second strand of the programme, the Graduate Transition strand will begin using a novel combination of best-practice Learning and Development methodologies to allow recent graduates (up to 12 months out) to get to grips more quickly with the professional standards expected of those working in engineering-led teams and organisations.
Participants will understand what is expected of them, how they should behave and what they can do to accelerate their professional development and career prospects. Six core classroom-based modules are delivered on a monthly basis supplemented via an on-line Learning Management System.
Participants will be expected to consider and prepare course-work in advance in order to maximise classroom group-work and cross-learning. A short reflective paper will be completed for each module. All participants complete the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) questionnaire.
Applications are now being sought for a special CPD Scholarship to fund 75 per cent of the total fees for one outstanding candidate to attend this programme. A number of smaller bursaries will also be awarded. The central criteria are that candidates must be members of Engineers Ireland, have a track record of achievement and strong career growth potential.
CPD Scholarship applications will be judged by Engineers Ireland’s CPD Director, Aidan Harney, Chartered FCIPD, and a panel of representatives from both the Engineers Ireland CPD and Membership Executive teams with recipients to be informed in January next.
Deadline for Scholarship Applications:
Noon on Friday, December 16.
Registration Closes: noon on Thursday, January 12, 2012
