In addition, the site also possessed its own brake testing machine with all operating plant and visiting HGVs checked. The site’s consideration to the public ranged from offering summer work placements to graduates and people keen to enter the industry to providing equipment to sports clubs. The team even left out food for fallow deer during bad winter weather. Oweninny Wind Farm wins Most Considerate Site Runner Up Award

Roadbridge, ESB and Bord Na Mona are celebrating a double win of Gold and Most Considerate Site Runner Up Awards for Oweninny Wind Farm, at the Considerate Constructors Scheme Awards 2019.

This project achieved an average score over the site assessment visits of 46.5 out of 50 and was awarded three innovations.

Located in County Mayo, Ireland, in a sensitive ecological area, this project entailed the construction of a new 29 Turbine wind farm. This pioneering team was full of great ideas and innovations. Its application of the award-winning Blivet UV system enabled it to treat sewage on site and use the non-potable water for road cleaning and dust suppression. It worked so well that the company later used the system on other sites. Further consideration for the environment was also demonstrated by the planting of wildflowers around the site to create a pollinator-friendly zone. Flowers, plants and trees were identified using the ‘PlantSnap’ smartphone app. Another superb idea was the use of aircraft-style marshalling wands by the banksman to control reversing vehicles. The site also used a vehicle check app linked to the company’s head office, which allowed operatives to carry out vehicle inspections and report accidents. Huge congratulations to this creative and innovative team – they have demonstrated that they are working at the forefront of the industry.
