Every year, Arup staff volunteer their professional skills and thousands of hours on community engagement projects – this partnership connects Arup in three countries with Engineers without Borders

Arup has launched a new strategic partnership with the non-profit organisation, Engineers without Borders (EWB). The partnership connects Arup in Ireland, Italy and the Netherlands to the three local branches of EWB. It is hoped to extend the partnership to other European countries next year.

Engineers without Borders supports disadvantaged communities to improve their quality of life through education and implementation of sustainable engineering projects. These projects also provide opportunities for Arup engineers and other technical and non-technical staff to take part in interesting work which has a positive humanitarian impact on disadvantaged communities locally and across the globe.

“We are convinced that strategic partnerships with companies like Arup will be of huge benefit to local communities. The engineers will work on technology-based social innovations. In return, they gain more awareness of social design aspects and learnings, which they can use in their day-to-day work as well,” explained Petra Beris, Board Member Project & Strategic Partnerships, EWB NL.

Every year, Arup staff volunteer their professional skills and thousands of hours to help shape a better world through community engagement. Last year, we undertook 155 major projects across the globe that helped to make disadvantaged and vulnerable communities safer, healthier and better educated. The strategic partnership with EWB will form part of Arup’s overall community engagement programme, and will last at least three years.

“We are delighted to enter into a long-term partnership with EWB in the Europe Region. This partnership gives our staff a coordinated way to contribute to less privileged communities, shaping a better world. We look forward to working closely with them across the region over the next three years,” said Padraig Coakley, Europe Local Community Engagement Fund Manager, Arup.
