The Young Engineers Society Ball is part of a major programme of events run by the society to provide members starting out in the profession with opportunities to network and develop their skills

Once a year, young engineers from across Ireland gather together at the Young Engineers Society (YES) Ball. Now in its 17th year, the YES Ball gives young professional engineers and engineering students an opportunity to expand their network in a relaxed social atmosphere. This year, the event was held at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel on 7 October.

Over 250 young engineers were dressed to impress at the black-tie ball, representing various engineering companies including Abbvie Ireland, Irish Cement, Arup, Irish Water, Jones Engineering, Intel, Nicholas O’Dwyer, Kingspan, Unitherm, CS Consulting, Roughan & O’Donovan, Atkins, RPS, Jacobs Engineering, DPS, ESB International and O’Connor Sutton Cronin. Engineering students from various universities and engineering societies were also represented.

The entertainment on the night began with music by Longford’s own Brave Giant and continued into the early morning with DJ Bob Conway (from Today FM). There was also some time for speeches from YES chair Dave Linehan and Dr Kieran Feighan, president of Engineers Ireland. Guests enjoyed a fantastic meal, networked with colleagues and formed many new friendships on the night.

The Young Engineers Society would sincerely like to thank our sponsors, Abbvie Ireland, Irish Cement, Jacobs Engineering, DPS, ESB International and O’Connor Sutton Cronin for their support in creating this successful event. This support ensures the continued success of the Young Engineers Society, which has an ambitious programme of events planned for the coming year.

These events include career progression workshops, talks encouraging STEM careers, site visits to company facilities, and guest lecture speakers.

Lastly, a huge thank you to the heart of our event – our guests who consistently bring fun and inclusion to the evening and society. A great night was had by all and we look forward to hosting the YES Ball 2018.
