ICE Honours TJ O’Connor Director and Engineers Ireland Fellow Michael Moriarty

TJ O’Connor & Associates Director, Michael Moriarty was recently honoured with the 2017 Outstanding Achievement Award by the Irish Region of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) for his work in relation to the Building Control Amendment Regulations and Safety, Health & Welfare in Ireland.
As a Director of TJ O’Connor & Associates with 37 years of experience in the planning and design of major structural engineering projects including office blocks, hospitals, schools and shopping complexes, Michael was instrumental in advancing the Building Control (Amendment) Regulations SI No. 09 of 2014 and played a key role in producing the Code of Practice for Inspection and Certification of Buildings and Works.
He was also very influential in advancing the Ancillary Design Certificates and Practice Notes to support the C.O.P associated Code of Practice and the production of Templates for Inspection Plans.
He was also a member of the Oversight Group appointed by the Minister for SI No. 105 of 2014. He also played a key role in Health and Safety Authority (HSA) on the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2006 and associated Guidelines.
He is a course developer and presenter of the ACEI and Engineers Ireland courses on Designing for Safety and Construction and Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP).
Over the past ten years he was involved in the consultations with the Government Construction Contracts Committee (GCCC) on the conditions of engagement for Consultancy Services and the associated procurement criteria for the new Department of Finance Forms of Contract. He acted as an expert witness in a number of construction related disputes in structural engineering such as Basements, Certification and Pyrite.
