Mattel has released a new Barbie doll designed to get more girls interested in technology. “Game Developer Barbie” sports an industry-inspired outfit complete with glasses, a laptop, a tablet and silver headset.
Mattel is hoping that the doll will “open young techies to the world of game development”.

“Honoured as a career of the year, young techies can play out the creative fun of this exciting profession,” a description of the doll on Mattel’s website reads.
The image on the Barbie’s laptop has “real game code graphics” and the tablet displays the game she is currently working on.
Only last year, Mattel had to publicly apologise for its 2010 publication ‘Barbie: I Can Be a Computer Engineer’, in which the iconic doll needed help to reboot her computer and had to rely on two male friends to do her coding work.
The company also faced criticism for its 2014 “I can be a Computer Engineer” doll which came with a pink laptop – much to the ire of consumers.
Game Developer Barbie has received a mostly positive reaction so far and is currently out of stock in the US – reports suggest that the doll is selling online for almost ten times its recommended retail price.http://www.engineersjournal.ie/2016/06/21/mattel-release-new-game-developer-barbie-doll/http://www.engineersjournal.ie/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Barbie-Mattel-1024x685.jpghttp://www.engineersjournal.ie/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Barbie-Mattel-300x300.jpgNewscareer,education,STEM
