Smart Dublin, a collaboration between the four Dublin local authorities, has been named a finalist in the TM Forum Digital World Awards 2016 in the Smart City Innovator of the year category.
Smart Dublin engages with smart technology providers, researchers and citizens to solve city challenges and improve city life. It aims to position Dublin as a world leader in the development of new urban solutions, using open data, and with the city region as a test bed.
Examples of flagship Smart Dublin projects that were made possible through the collaboration model include: Dublinked Open Data; the Dublin Dashboard; an award-winning flood management Internet of Things (IoT) demonstrator with Intel; a low cost river level sensing trial with Kingspan and Dublin City University; traffic management and big data analytics with IBM research.
The Digital World Awards programme honours global service and solution providers that are making significant contributions to advance critical best practices and standards for the benefit of entire industries and digital ecosystems.
“We are delighted that Smart Dublin has been nominated as a TM Forum Digital World Award finalist for Smart City Innovator of the Year. We have built this model so we can take advantage of new technology innovations to deliver more efficient and effective city services that help improve city life,” said Philomena Poole, chief executive, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and chair of the Smart Dublin initiative.
“The Smart Dublin collaboration model has facilitated a whole range of highly innovative projects allowing the city to rethink how we tackle priority challenges in the areas such as flooding, transport, environment and energy reduction,” said Jamie Cudden, Smart City programme manager, Dublin City Council.
The TM Forum Digital World Awards 2016 are judged by an independent panel comprised of leading industry and subject matter experts, analysts and investors.
Winners of the 2016 TM Forum Digital World Awards will be announced during a special ceremony at TM Forum Live! on Monday, May 9.http://www.engineersjournal.ie/2016/05/09/smart-dublin-named-a-finalist-in-tm-forum-digital-world-awards/http://www.engineersjournal.ie/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/Smart-Dublin.jpghttp://www.engineersjournal.ie/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/Smart-Dublin-300x300.jpgNewsdigital,Dublin,Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Co Co,innovation, internet of Things,South Dublin County Council
