Engineers Ireland and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) are offering Engineers Ireland members a discount on its CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting and the chance to acquire a thorough knowledge of business and finance.

CIMA educates, trains and qualifies financial professionals. Its 8,200 members and students represent financial and strategic decision makers in over 3,500 organisations in Ireland. There are many engineers within that membership, including George Glass, global past president of CIMA and Sean Shine, past president of CIMA Ireland.

The current economic environment requires professionals operating in any commercial business to really understand the nuts and bolts of business and finance, whatever their management/professional discipline. This is equally applicable in the world of engineering, where design and viability are so inextricably linked with cost and return on investment.

The finance function is no longer the sole preserve of the finance department and employers are increasingly looking for evidence of commercial acumen and hard financial skills amongst engineering professionals.

WHAT DOES CIMA OFFER?

A fundamental grounding in business and finance is essential for all engineering professionals operating in today’s business environment. Against this backdrop, Engineers Ireland and CIMA Ireland have aligned for the delivery of the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting to Engineers Ireland members.

The CIMA Certificate is ideal for those new to the world of finance, providing an understanding of the uses of accounting information in planning, controlling and decision making. The certificate is comprised of five individual study modules:

  • (C01) fundamentals of management accounting;
  • (C02) fundamentals of financial accounting;
  • (C03) fundamentals of business mathematics;
  • (C04) fundamentals of business economics;
  • (C05) fundamentals of ethics, corporate governance and business law.

All Engineers Ireland members are exempt from one of the five modules – business mathematics (C03). Members with additional relevant qualifications may also be eligible for more exemptions. Certificate examinations can be taken in any order and can be sat all year round across any of the 26 Pearson Vue examination centres located across the island of Ireland.

Engineers Ireland members interested in studying for the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting qualification can avail of a 25% discount. Exam fees are paid separately (Pearson Vue exam centres – £50 per exam; CIMA Ireland office – €62).
