International travel website Tripadvisor is to establish its first European engineering hub in Dublin’s docklands and will begin recruiting 50 engineers immediately.

The hub will be located in the ‘Silicon Docks’ area and is set to be Tripadvisor’s largest engineering operation outside the US. The company, which operates branded sites in 30 countries worldwide, said the Dublin hub would be a centre for key engineering roles globally, working closely with TripAdvisor’s team of engineers in the US “to deliver new and improved features to its platforms”.

Andy Gelfond, SVP engineering and operations, TripAdvisor, said the decision to open in Dublin was based on the availability of talent. “As a global and growing company, we need to expand the places where we can find best-in-class talent,” he said.

“Given the robust roles we’re looking to recruit, we felt it was important to base our new engineering hub in a location that had a history of supporting technology and innovation, and had a talent pool to recruit from. In that respect, Dublin fits the bill perfectly.”

Lars Holzman has been appointed engineering site manager of the new Dublin hub, tasked with overseeing the integration of the new office into TripAdvisor’s global network. He most recently managed the team responsible for TripAdvisor’s Metasearch feature, a major site enhancement that allows users to see real-time hotel room prices and availability from a range of booking partners, all on one page.

TripAdvisor’s move to Dublin has been supported by IDA Ireland and CEO Barry O’Leary believes its presence will bring excellent career opportunities for highly skilled engineers in Ireland.
